Several people hospitalised as fire breaks out in care home
About 30 people were forced to escape a blaze inside a care home, with several people being taken to hospital.
The fire began at a hairdressers inside the Parkview Care Home in Woolwich Road, Bexleyheath at around 11.30am this morning.
The London Fire Brigade said eight fire engines and about 60 firefighters tackled the fire.
Heavy smoke was reported on the ground floor. Four people were rescued from the building by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, while three further people were led to safety by firefighters.
A statement from the brigade said: “Several people have been treated for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service crews. About 30 people left the building before firefighters arrived.
“Road closures remain in place and the public are asked to avoid the area where possible.
“The brigade was called at 11.26am and the fire was under control by 1.02pm. Crews from Sidcup, Eltham, Bexley, East Greenwich and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.
“The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.”
