Shop sting sees teenager sold dangerous knife

An undercover 15-year-old police cadet successfully bought a knife in a watchdog’s sting.
And hours later, in an unrelated incident, the urgency of stamping out fatal blade sales was thrown into focus by the fatal stabbing of a 23-year-old man less than two miles away.
Police revealed the undercover teen was sold the weapon, a Hilka pro-craft folding lock utility knife, on Clapham High Street yesterday for £5.99.
The 15-year-old volunteer was also sold alcohol at an off-licence in Stockwell, in a separate sting.
Hours later, a 23-year-old man was stabbed in a youth club on Minet road, Brixton.
The Met regularly work alongside partner agencies such as Trading Standards to clamp down on the illegal sale of knives and alcohol.
The penalty for selling a weapon to a anyone under the age of 18 is up to 6 months imprisonment, a fine of up to £5,000, or both.
Three teenagers have died after stabbings so far this year.
