Six rescued by firefighters from blaze in block of flats

Six people were rescued from a fire that tore through a block of flats on Saturday evening.

One person managed to escape the blaze before firefighters arrived at the scene in Northend Road, Erith.

Part of a communal area on the second floor of the block was damaged by the fire.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus from Erith, Bexley and Plumstead fire stations attended. There were no reports of any injuries.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called at around 8.45pm and the fire was under control by around 9.30pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
