Six-year-old scoops prize for naming school’s nature club

A young boy has won two books in his school for coming up with a name for a youth-led nature initiative.
Children at Charles Dickens School in Toulmin Street, Borough, brainstormed ideas for the new after school club which aims to “create a better urban future”.
Otto Alexander, six, suggested the winning name InvestiNatures, a triple entendre linking investigating, nature and investment.
Charlotte Glazier – mum of Isla Ray Kemp, a six-year-old student at Charles Dickens – came up with the idea of a nature club last year.
Mrs Glazier set up a crowdfund and raised more than £400 for a winter after-school pilot serving hot chocolate.
The after-school pilot club runs like a communal parents’ playdate with shared responsibility.
She said: “This is the beginning of unlocking the barriers for both our children and nature in the public realm.
“Our next stage will be in identifying new funding opportunities, engaging more children and enabling nature to thrive.”
An official website by the address, Investinatures.org, will be launched on April 22. This aims to invite interest and collaborators across the capital.
