Storm Henk: Council begin huge clear-up after 80 emergency incidents

A council has launched a huge clean-up operation after Storm Henk ripped through South London earlier this week.

Bromley council has drafted contractor crews to help clear the fallen trees after high winds caused 80 emergency incidents throughout the borough.

Councillor Will Rowlands said: “The sheer ferocity of these winds caused significant damage right across the borough, including to private property.

“Our thoughts are with residents who are having to deal with difficult situations today that has affected their home in some way.

“In the days to come, our street cleaning crews will spend quite some time clearing smaller debris, which will amount to tens of tonnes, no doubt.”

The high winds – which prompted the Met Office to issue an amber weather warning – follow disruptive weather across the last few weeks, meaning there have now been around 120 emergency incidents since Christmas.

A spokesman for the council said: “Whilst the extreme high winds have eased, residents are still being reminded that they can still report ‘tree fall emergencies’ 24/7,  on 0300 303 8658.”
