Storm Isha: Clear-up under way after huge tree comes crashing down overnight

A huge clean up operation is underway after high winds from Storm Isha see more than 25 emergency incidents reported in one borough.

Southborough Lane in Bromley is currently closed between Southborough Road and Salisbury Road, after a large privately owned tree fell across the road overnight.

Teams deployed by Bromley council are at the scene with specialist lifting equipment to move the tree and any debris from the road by the end of today.

Additional contractor crews have also been drafted to help clear the fallen trees and branches on pavements and roads across the borough.

Councillor Will Rowlands, executive councillor for environment said: “In the days to come, our street cleaning crews will spend quite some time clearing smaller debris, such as the smaller twigs etc which will amount to tens of tonnes no doubt and is a major job.”

A spoeksman from the council said: “Residents are still being reminded they can still report ‘tree fall emergencies’ 24/7, by calling the council on 0300 303 8658.”
