Strike success sees library workers’ sick pay increased by 20%

Library workers in Bromley and Greenwich secured a 20 per cent increase in sick pay after organising strike action last month.

The union Unite announced the improvement for its members employed by Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL), following a day 24-hour walk-out on March 26.

The day of industrial action was joined by a picket line outside Woolwich Library in Wellington Street, Woolwich.

GLL agreed to increase sick pay from this month for all its employees, including leisure workers.

The social enterprise operates more than 240 leisure centres, 120 libraries and 15 children’s centres across the country.

Unite regional officer Mary Summers said: “This win has been achieved through industrial action only, but we aren’t done yet.

“We must secure all the improvements that our members deserve, and are confident that together we will attain just that.”
