Woman taken to hospital after alleged rape as man arrested

A woman was taken to hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning after she called police, reporting she had been raped.

Police were called to the junction of London Road and Kidderminster Road, in Croydon, at around 1am.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found the woman – in her 30s – who reported she had been raped. The woman was taken to hospital.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of rape and was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

A crime scene was in place until around 10am.

Detective Sergeant Tim Walter said: “I know the local community will be incredibly concerned to hear about this terrible incident.

“I want to offer my full reassurance that a thorough investigation is underway.

“Residents should expect to see an increased police presence in the area as we continue our enquiries.”

A spokeswoman from the Met said: “Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 and give reference CAD 266/18November.”
