‘You were failed, little bro’: Amazon worker missing from South London found dead in Kent

The family of a man who has been found dead in Kent have said police “failed” him after his body was discovered by a private investigator.

Upale Kaloshi, 21, from Deptford, was last seen in Lewisham on May 20 on his way to work at an Amazon factory in Dartford.

His family confirmed on Instagram that his body had been found on Wednesday on a beach near Dover by a private investigator they had hired.

Upale’s sister, Lukondo Kaloshi, shared the awful news afterward, and claimed the body had been there for seven days, after weeks of searching for him.

She wrote: “Unfortunately we received the worst news we’ve ever heard. A body was found matching the description of Upale by a shore in Dover yesterday morning.

“The body was found by our private investigator. He was there for seven days. Seven days. It all doesn’t make sense. We all feel failed by the police, which is unfortunate because I didn’t want to believe the stereotypes, but if they acted sooner with urgency like we constantly begged them to, we could have found him.”

Sharing photos of Upale, she said: “He is intelligent, so hard-working, so likeable. If you’ve ever met him, I promise you’d never forget him. This still makes no sense and I’m sorry you were failed, little bro. We love you so much Upale.

“I’m still looking out the window waiting for you to come back. I refuse to believe this.”

A statement from Kent Police said: “On Wednesday, June 7, 2023, the body of a man was discovered near Dover. Officers attended and sadly the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Formal identification has yet to take place, but the family of a 21-year-old man from South-east London, who was reported missing on Sunday, May 21, have been informed.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner.”
