Brighton manager Chris Hughton: VAR made right call for Glenn Murray’s winning goal

Brighton boss Chris Hughton confirmed that VAR had been used for Glenn Murray’s late winner against Crystal Palace.

The Eagles bowed out of the FA Cup as their former striker – who plundered the goals to gain them promotion to the Premier League – forced the ball home from almost on the line.

But there were initially doubts if Murray used his arm to get the slightest of touches. It is the kind of contentious moments which VAR is expected to add greater accuracy to getting right.

Hughton said: “I’m under the impression VAR was used and didn’t see an infringement on the goal. Having seen it since I think it’s reasonably clear that it didn’t hit his hand.

“I’m led to believe it was used and there wasn’t a decision to be made.”

Palace manager Roy Hodgson added: “If it had been my player scoring that goal I would have been disappointed if it was ruled out.”
