Bromley boss Andy Woodman: My players were miles off it in defeat to York City
Bromley manager Andy Woodman admitted his side deserved absolutely nothing in Saturday’s 2-0 home loss to York City.
Former Dulwich Hamlet striker Dipo Akinyemi scored the second goal for the visitors with Marvin Armstrong breaking the deadlock shortly after the half-hour mark.
Bromley are third in the National League.
“We were poor today,” Woodman told BBC Radio London. “They looked like they were a little more on the front foot – they picked up more second balls and were a bit more aggressive. We were miles off it today – I don’t think we even huffed and puffed.
“No excuses from me for the result – we go again.
“York were better than us and it might just be a good little reminder that we need to stick to what we’re about and earn the right in every part of the pitch.
“I was disappointed with the first goal. It was exactly like I thought – two yards offside. Then it is questionable whether it has gone across the line. That doesn’t help.
“It is Non League Day and everyone gets caught up in that we want to keep these fans coming back – give them something to cheer about – but we’ve got 70 points and we’ve still got six games left. It’s not all doom and gloom.
“Today wasn’t our day and sometimes that can work for you. It might make players realise that teams down the bottom are fighting for survival and you have got to be on it everywhere across the park.
“We’ve got to keep worrying about here and now – not the play-offs. The here and now is Dorking on Friday and Woking on Tuesday. We have done all our good work in midweek to get the result at Wealdstone and it leaves you a little bit flat today.
“Let’s get back to it Monday and not beat ourselves up over a bad performance – it’s been a good season so far.”
