Charlton Athletic boss on his striker options for Saturday’s fixture against Oxford United

Charlton Athletic look set to still be without three of their senior strikers for Saturday’s home game against Oxford United.

Chuks Aneke, Jayden Stockley and Conor Washington were all unavailable for last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Wigan Athletic.

Stockley, who tops the club’s scoring charts, has been unavailable since December due to a hip problem.

“It is unlikely we’ll have any of the lads who were missing from the game at Wigan back available,” Addicks boss Johnnie Jackson told the South London Press.

Akin Famewo was the odd loanee out at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

The Norwich City centre-back was dropped after the reverse to Bolton Wanderers. Charlton can only name five loan players in their matchday 18 and have six on their books.

Asked if Famewo was likely to continue to be missing out due to Jason Pearce, Ben Purrington, Sean Clare, Ryan Inniss and Sam Lavelle all being options to play in the back three, Jackson replied: “When you look at the make-up of the bench we had cover in that area.

“I had to leave one out and decided it was Akin at the weekend. That will change any given fixture depending on team selection and make up of the bench, what I feel like we need to cover certain positions.

“That was just the way I went on Saturday. I might well go different for Oxford.”
