Charlton Athletic boss provides fitness update on Jake Forster-Caskey
Charlton Athletic manager Johnnie Jackson has provided a fitness update on Jake Forster-Caskey. The midfielder has been out since suffering an ACL injury in the penultimate home game of last season.
Forster-Caskey was voted the club’s Player of the Year for the previous campaign.
The Addicks stuck by the former England U21 international, extending his contract by a further 12 months until this summer. Forster-Caskey had been due to be a free agent and had been in fine form before he suffered the anterior cruciate ligament damage against Lincoln City.
“I know I can get back but it does take time,” Forster-Caskey told the South London Press in July. “I need to be patient and I hope the fans will be slightly patient – I can’t click my fingers and come back straight away. It’s unfortunate, what I’ve done, but I’m not afraid of hard work.”
Jackson has described the playmaker as “improving well”.
“He is cracking on with his rehab,” Jackson told our paper this week. “The nature of his injury was a really bad one, his second bad injury, he did a lot of damage to his knee ligaments. It is really important he gets the right rehab.
“We have built him up slowly but he’s getting on great. Hopefully out on the grass progressing real soon with a view to getting him back involved in the squad.
“It’s slowly but surely with Jake. We can’t rush that one because he can’t afford any setbacks.”
