Charlton Athletic midfielder can still have future in SE7 despite League One loan switch
Nathan Jones has made it clear that Terry Taylor still has a future at Charlton Athletic despite the midfielder’s recent loan move to Northampton Town.
The 23-year-old has already featured twice for the Cobblers. He played the full 90 minutes on his debut, picking up a booking, in a 0-0 draw at Wycombe Wanderers. Taylor then played the entirety of the midweek 3-1 loss at Bolton, collecting another caution.
Charlton manager Jones said: “Absolutely (the door is not closed for him at Charlton). He has been a credit to himself. I’ve got a good relationship with Terry – I’m always honest with my players.
“They can say what they want about me but they can’t call me a liar, that is why I have built a relationship.
“At times he has had it tough – he’s had to bide his time, bit the bullet and swallow some pride. He has done that. He has shown he has been a key member to our squad.
“Now, for me to be fair to him and keep his career moving forward…I could’ve been selfish, kept him here and played him in a few games but I made a decision to, one, allow him to go and do the thing he loves doing best – that is playing football.
“We had a number of offers for him and he has gone off to a really good club and very good manager, who I know.
“It was a really important decision, not just for the football club but for him.
“He is an asset. The club paid money for him, he’s under contract and we will re-assess the situation at the end of the season. Hopefully he has had a fantastic time at Northampton and then he will have an even trickier decision to make come May and June.
“The club have been fantastic. I’ve had no pressure to get rid of anyone.”
