Charlton tighten up defensively as Morgan and Bogle on target to lift them to third in League One
Charlton moved up to third in the League One table after a 2-0 victory at Ipswich Town.
The Addicks have kept eight clean sheets in their 13 matches in the competition this season and showed none of the uncharacteristic defensive vulnerability which saw them lose 4-2 at Burton in midweek.
Albie Morgan fired the visitors ahead at Portman Road in the 21st minute. It followed excellent work by Chuks Aneke to win the ball on the edge of the box before Andrew Shinnie’s pass deflected into the path of the academy product.
Substitute Omar Bogle had only been on the pitch for two minutes when he added a second goal.
The striker had replaced Paul Smyth, who appeared to suffer a nasty injury to his left leg. He converted at the back post when Darren Pratley’s drive across the face of goal fell nicely for him with 22 minutes remaining.
It was Bogle’s first goal for the club.
Charlton’s victory – their eighth of the Championship season – leaves them four points behind leaders Hull City. They are two points behind second-placed Peterborough but have a game in hand.
