Dons boss Johnnie Jackson makes Josh Davison admission after brace in Colchester win

Johnnie Jackson believed Josh Davison’s performance in AFC Wimbledon’s 5-3 win over Colchester United on Friday evening was his best for the club.

Davison opened the scoring early when he met a cross from Ali Al-Hamadi, and he hit a first-time shot from inside the area past Owen Goodman.

The 24-year-old added Wimbledon’s fourth and grabbed his second in the 52nd minute when he brought down Joe Lewis’ punt forward and arrowed a shot beyond Crystal Palace loanee Goodman.

Dons record signing Davison played in a front two alongside Ali Al-Hamadi, with Omar Bugiel playing behind them.

Davison has eight goals in all competitions this season.

“I’m delighted for him,” said Jackson.

“He’s had to be patient, hasn’t he?

“But since he has got in the team over the last few weeks, he has taken his chance and scored goals – he looked a top player.

“Tonight was maybe his best game for the club.

“He and Ali were a real handful all night and the way he took his goals were excellent.

“We know about his movement and what he gives to us out of possession and how hard he works. Sometimes that finish might be lacking, but not tonight, he took his chances brilliantly.”
