‘Emptied the tank’ – QPR boss hails squad after Middlesbrough victory
QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth said his side “emptied the tank” in order to secure their 1-0 win at Middlesbrough on Saturday.
The west Londoners secured all three points thanks to Andre Dozzell’s stunning hit from distance which swerved into the top right-hand corner of Seny Dieng’s goal and a late Jack Colback strike.
They moved on to six points and up to 17th in the Championship table.
“I’m so, so pleased today,” former Wycombe boss Ainsworth told QPR’s YouTube channel.
“We have deserved this. I can’t say that it’s not been coming.
“I told the boys: ‘We’re a team – we don’t need to do any more business. This is the team and come with me because we’re going to go places.’
“That performance was the same as Ipswich and Southampton, but we got what we deserved today.
“The lads were superb. I’m really proud. It’s not been easy, but I’m hoping people are seeing that we’re trying to do a different style and we’re trying to be difficult to beat.
“They have emptied the tank again.
“I’m so pleased for the owners who have backed me. It’s paid off and hopefully everyone will recover now over the next two weeks.
“It’s going to be a nice journey home.”
