Greenwich heavyweight Daniel Dubois matched with unbeaten Gorman for English title
Unbeaten Greenwich boxer Daniel Dubois has been mandated to box for the vacant English heavyweight title.
The former Great Britain amateur star turned pro in April and signed off his debut year with a second round KO win over Dorian Darch at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday.
The British Boxing Board of Control are keen for Dubois, 20, to take on Nantwich’s Nathan Gorman for the English belt.
It would be a clash of undefeated fighters with Dubois 6-0 – all stoppage victories – while Gorman is 11-0 with nine inside-the-distance successes.
Dubois said: “I’ll take on any challenge. It is for my team, Frank Warren [promoter] and myself to make the fight happen. I’m ready for anyone.”
Warren added: “This was only his sixth fight as a pro. He’s got a long way to go but what he’s doing, he’s doing well.
“He’s learning. He’ll fight anybody. If I said he was fighting Anthony Joshua he’d say ‘what time have I got to be here?’ My job is just to hold him up and make the moves at the right time.
“He’s had a great nine months – onwards and upwards next year and we move forward.”
