‘He is really important for the group’ – Millwall caretaker boss on lack of game time for George Saville

Millwall caretaker manager Adam Barrett says that George Saville is “fully in my plans” – the midfielder not being a regular starter since Allan Campbell’s loan arrival from Luton Town at the end of the last transfer window.

Campbell and Casper De Norre have been selected to play the two central spots with Saville and Billy Mitchell both benched.

Saville has not started a Championship match for the Lions since the start of September. He has played 30 minutes of football since September 23, coming off the bench very late on to score against Plymouth Argyle earlier this month.

The former Middlesbrough and Chelsea midfielder was an unused sub in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Preston North End.

Barrett told the South London Press: “The guys in the middle of the pitch have got a couple of good results. George Saville is an experienced player and he is a valuable and important member of the squad, there are not two ways about it.

“He is great to have around. As long as I’m taking charge, Savs is going to be in and around it. He has got a big part to play.

“You have got to pick a team that you think suits who you are playing and gets the best out of them.

“Savs is fully in my plans, without a doubt. We all know what he can do. There are no issues, no problems, and I expect him to keep working hard in training, his attitude has been excellent.

“He is really important for the group.”
