Hoops give West Brom the jitters but the draw is not enough to stop Baggies’ promotion party

West Brom 2 QPR 2

Queens Park Rangers gave West Bromwich Albion a final day scare as they settled for a 2-2 draw.

After Ryan Manning gave the R’s a surprise lead, Grady Diangana and Callum Robinson combined to make it 2-1 before Ebere Eze grabbed a stunning equaliser.

The result means West Brom have secured automatic promotion to the Premier League after Brentford lost late to Barnsley at Griffin Park. QPR, meanwhile, end the Championship campaign in 13th.

The visitors were forced to weather an early storm as Diangana went close before Sawyers’ low, driven shot was pushed away by Joe Lumley.

The breakthrough arrived on 34 minutes when Manning collected an initial shot attempt on the rebound before drilling one low into the bottom corner beyond Sam Johnstone’s reach. It did not last long, however, as Robinson teed up Diangana to strike between Lumley’s legs.

The R’s were forced to contend with another tough spell and fell behind when the scorer turned provider, with his inch-perfect cross enabling Robinson to score a tap-in.

Despite losing their one-goal lead, the visitors stunned West Brom for the leveller when Eze ran onto Yoann Barbet’s through-ball to whip the ball into the top corner.

Neither side could find the winner but it needn’t have mattered for the Baggies as Brentford’s late defeat at home to Barnsley helped send them up and the hosts could celebrate at the final whistle.
