Johnnie Jackson insists AFC Wimbledon are ‘still in a good position’ despite late Barrow draw

BY MITCHELL HALL

Johnnie Jackson feels his side are still in a good position in the League Two promotion hunt despite dropping two points in their late 2-2 draw at home to Barrow on Saturday.

The Dons fell to a draw after conceding two Barrow goals in the last eight minutes at Plough Lane on Saturday, cancelling out a two-goal cushion provided by goals from Marcus Browne and Matty Stevens.

The draw left Wimbledon still in the automatic spots thanks to favourable results elsewhere in League Two, but they are now vulnerable to being overtaken by Doncaster and Port Vale with their game in hand.

“It is a game we should win,” said Jackson. “There is nothing I can say to the players that is going to make them not disappointed, but we will come into training and be ready to work. There is another big game next week.

“We could have had two more points on the board, of course, but it is another point, and we are still in a good position.

“The players will be gutted, they will be disappointed, but they will not feel sorry for themselves, they will come in on Monday ready to work and put it right.”

Jackson also felt that despite their late capitulation, Wimbledon deserved more from the game, and may even have been held back by a selection of poor refereeing decisions.

“We scored two really good goals today and we should be talking about them as part of a winning performance. There was loads to like about what we have done today.

“We should have had a penalty.

“They also give offside against Matty Stevens at the end, and he is not, which gives them the opportunity to put it back down our throat.

“For me, there are two incorrect decisions.

“We should have done enough to win that game, so I have to concentrate on what we could have done better, but you want the officials to get those right.”
