Lee Bowyer ready for League One resumption – and knows squad will come into play for “crazy” schedule
Lee Bowyer knows he will need to call on all of Charlton’s squad as they get set to head into another hectic fixture schedule – with their next three League One matches all away.
The Addicks return after the international break with a trip to Gillingham on Saturday.
Promotion rivals Peterborough United and Sunderland both lost at the weekend with the SE7 outfit having two games in hand on the Posh, who are top of the standings.
Charlton follow up their trip to the Priestfield Stadium with a Tuesday night match at Burton Albion and then head to Ipswich on November 28.
“We’re going into another crazy schedule and we’re going to need the squad,” said Bowyer. “The most important thing is putting the right squad together, because three away games on the spin is a lot of travelling.
“You need all the players to be ready when called upon. We’ll have to freshen things up and change personnel at certain times. So everyone will play a part.”
Bowyer does not expect club captain Jason Pearce to start in Kent despite the centre-back featuring in the EFL Trophy win over Leyton Orient last week.
Deji Oshilaja has been out for a number of weeks with a foot injury.
“They are training with the lads outside now,” said the Addicks chief. “Pearcey had 45 minutes the other day but he’s been out a long time, so we won’t be chucking him straight in the deep end. I don’t think Deji will be ready yet.
“[Alex] Gilbey starts training on Monday. He’s another coming back into the squad, which is good. But he’s another who has been out for a while.
“Akin [Famewo] is probably a couple of weeks away. It was a four-week injury and then we had the international break for two weeks. By the time we get back playing he shouldn’t be too far away.”
