Millwall striker Josh Coburn would have relished facing parent club Middlesbrough at The Den

Josh Coburn has admitted he would have loved to face parent club Middlesbrough this weekend – but the terms of his loan deal to Millwall mean he will be left sitting in the stands.

The 22-year-old forward scored his fifth goal of the campaign, all in the Championship, as the Lions sealed a 1-0 victory at Sheffield United last night.

Next up for Alex Neil’s men is a home fixture against the Teessiders, who occupy the final play-off place. Boro now have just a three-point cushion over their opponents after they lost 1-0 to Leeds on Tuesday evening.

Coburn, asked recently if it is a frustration he cannot feature against Middlesbrough, told the South London Press: “I can see why they do it.

“A lot of fans would be annoyed if I scored the winner and it would be a bit weird, because I’ve never played against Boro before. I’ve always played for them.

“But loads of players do go on, get sold and play against their old clubs.

“It would take a bit of getting used to but it would be a good test. I know the players and I’d like to play in it, but I can’t.”

Millwall were keen to sign Coburn permanently in the January transfer window – a story broken on our website at the time – with head coach Neil telling our paper that the big targetman fitted the profile they wanted.
