New arrival Charlie Kirk set to travel with Charlton squad to Milton Keynes on Tuesday

BY LOUIS MENDEZ

New arrival Charlie Kirk is set to be part of Charlton’s squad for the trip to Milton Keynes on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old winger, who only arrived in SE7 on Thursday and has recently suffered a family bereavement, was not involved in the squad for today’s 2-1 defeat at Oxford United.

Kirk has signed a four-year deal with the Addicks and is set to be included in the travelling party as the South Londoners head to Buckinghamshire on Tuesday evening.

Manager Nigel Adkins explained: “He’s trained yesterday with the players. He’s trained this morning with the sports science teams. He’ll be back involved on Monday. He’ll travel with us on Tuesday and I’ll expect him to be in the squad on Tuesday.

“What we’ve got in Charlie Kirk coming in, he’s in for a long period of time which is great. He’s a talented, young man. We can all understand that he’s just had a very emotional, trying time in his life. We need to support him and help him. He’s mixed in very well with the players so far. We’ve got a great group of players. We’ve got a very committed, honest, hard-working group of players. We’ve had a good conversation in the dressing room there because the players are desperate to do well.

“That’s the biggest thing at any club. You want to build something. You need to build stability and sustainability. A team needs to come together to understand, like on a day like today, what lessons can we learn from it so we can improve and keep getting better and better. If you keep changing all the time, you’re not going to have that stability. You’ll become a better team because of that.”
