Non-league round-up: Dulwich boss Hayrettin reacts to heavy loss as Bromley play-hopes take a dent
New Dulwich Hamlet boss Hakan Hayrettin described Monday night’s 5-1 defeat at Chelmsford City as an “eye opener” and lamented his side’s defending at the Melbourne Stadium.
Hamlet got off to a winning start under Hayrettin last weekend, beating St Albans 1-0, but went behind in the 43rd minute against Chelmsford thanks to Ben Brookes’ effort. Chelmsford bagged four second-half goals – with ex-Millwall midfielder Liam Trotter getting on the scoresheet – to go 5-0 up.
George Porter found a consolation for the South Londoners in the 88th minute.
Dulwich are 20th in the National League South and four points above the drop zone.
“It’s an eye-opener,” ex-Maidstone boss Hayrettin told Dulwich’s YouTube channel. “We can’t miss so many chances. You can’t defend like that. Liam Totter is 34 and he has run past three of our midfield players to put the ball in the net.
“We have conceded from three free-kicks that we shouldn’t have given away. I have just told them in no uncertain terms that we’re going to have to work hard and they have got to be up to it. If they’re not up for it, you might as well get out of the way.”
Andy Woodman’s Bromley side suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to York City on Tuesday evening after keeper Reice Charles-Cook was sent off before half-time, forcing ex-Millwall defender Besart Topalloj to go in goal.
The Ravens are ninth in the National League and five points adrift of the play-off spots.
Welling United picked up a point against Farnborough on Tuesday night after playing out a goalless draw in National League South.
Tooting & Mitcham are rock bottom of Isthmian League South Central and lost 3-1 at Hanworth Villa on Tuesday. Enoch Ako-Adjei scored a consolation from the spot.
Cray Valley PM are just a point outside the Isthmian League South East play-off spots after a 3-0 win at Burgess Hill Town in midweek. Kiki Oshilaja, Daniel Bennett and Ade Adeyemo scored.
