‘Outstanding’ – AFC Wimbledon knock out MK to progress through to FA Cup second round
Johnnie Jackson hailed AFC Wimbledon’s outstanding performance as they knocked Milton Keynes out of the first round of the FA Cup.
Goals from Matty Stevens and Omar Bugiel saw the 1988 winners progress through to the second round of the competition.
The Dons beat Milton Keynes 3-0 in League Two earlier in the second but won at Stadium MK for the first time since 2014.
“I’m absolutely buzzing – there is no other way to put it,” said Jackson.
“The performance was outstanding. The lads, to a man, stepped up to the challenge and stuck to the game plan.
“It’s a difficult place against a good team and we deservedly won.
“We know there is more to it than just that, but the way the lads went about their business, I thought we were outstanding today.
“Omar was a menace all day with his physicality. Matty gambled off the shoulder [for our first].
“The second goal was going to be important. If they got it early in the second half, it would have given us a bit of a headache.
“Getting that second took the wind out of them a little bit. We continued to push – I would have liked a third.
“The way we saw it out was really comfortable.
“I’m pleased for every single Wimbledon supporter. Some choose to come, some don’t. We fully respect that.
“It was great to see so many here today.”
