Player ratings from Crystal Palace’s 1-1 draw at home to Brighton – Striker leads the line well as substitute fails to have a positive impact

Crystal Palace played out a 1-1 draw at home to Brighton in the Premier League on Thursday night.

Palace took the lead in the first half after Jordan Ayew headed home Michael Olise’s cross.

But Brighton scored a late equaliser through Danny Welbeck to deny Crystal Palace all three points.

Here are Edmund Brack’s player ratings from Selhurst Park:

DEAN HENDERSON – 7

Pulled off a great stop to deny Simon Adingra in the 18th minute.

Another top save to deny Brighton from equalising in the 64th minute.

Clearly struggling with his quad injury in the second half.

NATHANIEL CLYNE – 7

Important interception to thwart Kaoru Mitoma from driving towards the penalty box in the 22nd minute.

He completed four of his five tackles, with Mitoma only getting past him once.

JOACHIM ANDERSEN – 8

Did well to stop Welbeck from having a second in the 90th minute, tracking the run and making sure the angle was awkward for the striker.

Won 100 per cent of his four tackles.

MARC GUEHI – 7

Was switching roles with Chris Richards early on as Palace looked to utilise the England international’s passing range.

Important challenge on Pascal Gross inside the box in the 16th minute.

Completed two blocks and had a pass success range of 96 per cent.

TYRICK MITCHELL – 6

Vital interception to put the ball out for a corner when Joao Pedro collected the ball inside the area.

JEFFERSON LERMA – 6

Good block to deny Brighton a shooting opportunity in the fourth minute.

Set up Michael Olise for a great chance in the first half.

CHRIS RICHARDS – 6

Had a tricky first half as he had to constantly scan for Brighton’s interchanging midfield.

Completed four clearances.

WILL HUGHES – 7

Won the ball back early on to stop Carlos Baleba from bursting towards goal.

Booked for a tactical foul on Gross in the 49th minute.

Replaced by David Ozoh in the 58th minute.

JORDAN AYEW – 7

Brilliant cross for Richards’ chance in the 35th minute, but the USA international was unable to find a way past a Brighton body on the line.

Headed the opener past Bart Verbruggen just before half-time.

Replaced by Eberechi Eze in the 69th minute.

JEAN-PHILIPPE MATETA – 8

Had Palace’s first real effort on target in the 26th minute with a shot from distance.

Played some intelligent passes and held the ball up well at the start of the second half

Battled really well up against Lewis Dunk.

Sensational feet to dance past Dunk and set up Eze, who had to do better with the chance.

Won five aerial battles.

MICHAEL OLISE – 7

Beautiful flick over Carlos Baleba to win a free-kick in the first half.

Excellent cross that was destined for Mateta just in front of goal, but Paul Van Heck flicked the chance behind for a corner.

Forced referee John Brooks to book Igor Julio after he skipped past the defender.

Really good run to attempt to latch onto Andersen’s through ball over the top, but the French attacker was unable to collect the pass.

SUBS

DAVID OZOH – 5

Completed all 10 of his passes and did not look out of place during the second half.

EBERECHI EZE – 4

Goal-saving interception to deny Facundo Buonanotte after he collected the ball over Tyrick Mitchell.

Should have scored after being played through by Mateta.

Was also at fault for Brighton’s equaliser.
