Shane Ferguson is Millwall’s most-capped player as he makes 28th international appearance

Shane Ferguson has increased his record as the most-capped Millwall player after his appearance for Northern Ireland in Sunday’s Nations League fixture against Austria.

The 29-year-old has made 24 appearances for his country while he has been with the Lions on a permanent basis – the same amount as David Forde accrued for Republic of Ireland during his time in SE16.

But in total Ferguson has played 28 times for Northern Ireland when you add in the four appearances when he was on loan from Newcastle United.

The versatile left-footer, who can play in defence or on the wing, has featured 206 times for the Lions and scored 12 goals.

Ferguson has only made one start in the current campaign for the Lions – in the recent 0-0 draw at Norwich City. He has played a total of 55 Championship minutes in the 2020-21 season.

He has won 42 caps for Ireland, making his debut in June 2009.
