Neville Staple from ska band The Specials performs at The Phoenix Festival

Neville Staple – from ska band The Specials – has been announced as the headline performer at one of South London’s most popular community festivals.

The Phoenix Festival, which is free to attend and organised by Phoenix Community Housing, will return to Forster Memorial Park next month.

The annual festival has a programme of arts, entertainment and activities for everyone to enjoy, writes Calum Fraser.

The Neville Staple Band will headline the main stage with a live performance at 4.15pm.

Other performers include UK Hip Hop and Soul artist Amy True, the New York Brass Band and tribute act Spice Girlz.

Live street theatre, climbing wall, arts and crafts, a dog show and community stalls will also be on offer.

This year’s event will celebrate Phoenix’s first decade as London’s only resident-led housing association.

The festival will offer Phoenix residents the opportunity to meet staff, share their views and to influence services and priorities over future years.

Phoenix chief executive Jim Ripley said: “The Phoenix Festival has been a highlight in the local calendar for 10 years and we can’t wait to deliver our biggest and best festival yet, as we celebrate 10 years of Phoenix and resident-led housing in Lewisham.

It’s going to be a fantastic day for all the community, and I want to thank all of our sponsors whose support makes the event possible.”
