Man killed in Brixton after collision with lorry

A man was killed in a collision with a HGV lorry in Brixton this morning.

The junction of Brixton Hill and Effra Road, just outside the Ritzy cinema, has been closed off, with a heavy presence of emergency services on site.

The collision happened in Brixton Road at around 9.40am and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesmen for the Met said: “Police were called at approximately 9.40am on Monday, February 6 to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and an HGV in Brixton Road, Brixton.

“Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended. A male pedestrian – no further details – was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Road closures remain in place. Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 9.37am today to reports of a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in Brixton Road.

“We sent two ambulance crews and an incident response officer to the scene.

“The first paramedic arrived in less than five minutes.

“Sadly a man died at the scene.”
