Former Crystal Palace attacker Jonny Williams on his future – and chances of Charlton Athletic deal
Attacking midfielder Jonny Williams would jump at the chance of a new deal at Charlton Athletic.
The 25-year-old is a free agent at the end of this month but proved to be an excellent signing from Crystal Palace on a short-term deal at the start of 2019.
Addicks manager Lee Bowyer reckons that the newly-promoted Championship club will struggle to match rival offers for Williams.
But the man himself said: “I would like to stay, if something can be sorted. But there is a lot that is unknown at the moment.
“I’ve been brought up by my mum and dad not to be a greedy person, that’s not the case at all.
“I’d say I’m probably halfway through my career, realistically. This is an important time, it’s the first time I’ve ever been in this position – on a free. Even when I was in the [Palace] academy I had years remaining [on his contract].
“It’s exciting for me. I don’t feel I’ve got anyone holding me back.
“This has been one of the main highlights of my career, the last six months. I never dreamt it would pan out the way it did – a penalty shootout, pitch invasion, playing my old club at Wembley and winning with the last kick of the game.”

We (charlton) have to do everything in our power to get this man on a new contract. And I also think that all of us want to see the gaffer Lee bowyer pen a new deal as well. But more than any new player coming in. We all want the chairman to sell and move on and let people that care about charlton let it thrive again.
