Hero firefighters revive Chopper the chihuahua caught in Brixton house fire

A dog rescued from a house fire was given emergency treatment after it collapsed at the top of the stairs.

Chopper, a chihuahua, was found by firefighters as they tackled a blaze in a maisonette in Loughborough Road, Brixton, earlier today.

Chopper was revived after being given chest compressions and oxygen from a tank.

A woman and a child left the property, uninjured, before the brigade arrived.

Part of the maisonette on the third and fourth floor was damaged by the blaze, which required four fire engines and around 25 firefighters
to put it out.

Station Commander Paul Saddler, who was at the scene, said: “Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus found the dog laying on the
floor at the top of the stairs.

“Chopper was brought out of the property and fire crews started giving chest compressions and administered oxygen.

“Chopper thankfully came round and was taken to the vets for a precautionary check-up. The firefighters’ actions undoubtedly saved the
dog’s life and he is now doing OK.”

A London Fire Brigade statement said: “The brigade was called at 11.15am and the fire was under control by 11.54am. Fire crews from Clapham and
Old Kent Road fire stations were at the scene.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
