Developer wants to turn a Crystal Palace warehouse into flats

Pub chain Antic wants to build new flats behind its yet to open new pub in Crystal Palace.

In March, Antic was given permission to open the pub in the Triangle.

But the new pub, expected to be called Cambridge Coopers, has not yet opened at 58-60 Westow Hill on the site of former plumbing shop, Plumbase.

Behind the site is a 1980s warehouse which Antic wants to knock down to make way for a block of five flats.

In February, it withdrew proposals for three houses in the same location.

The latest planning application was validated by Croydon council on October 1.

The three-storey building would be made up of four two-bedroomed flats and a single three-bedroomed flat.

The application states: “The scheme implements a mix of accommodation by creating a high quality four flats one bedroom/two person and one family flat three bedroom/six person, which will have a very positive impact on its immediate surroundings and the ongoing vibrancy of Crystal Palace.”

It adds that the flats would be “warehouse architecture style” and would be made from brick with timber-frame windows and steel balconies.

“This proposal will significantly improve the look of what is a rather desolate back area and will bring 24/7 life to this spot, improving the setting for it and the nearest neighbours.”

Public consultation on the plans will close on October 26 and a decision is
expected to be made by November 26.
