Dog loses eye after being dragged 50 metres in hit and run

A Staffordshire bull terrier has suffered serious head injuries and lost an eye after being dragged 50 metres by a van in Lambeth.

The owner was walking the nine-year-old dog, called Angel, on a lead on the north end of Croxted Road at around 11.15pm last month, on New Year’s Eve.

The dog was struck by a van and dragged approximately 50 metres along the road.

Both the dog and owner had been wearing hi-viz jackets at the time.

The van driver did not stop at the scene and drove off in the direction of Norwood Road.

The dog suffered a serious head injury and required surgery to remove her left eye.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage of the incident or vehicle.
