Millwall manager reacts to reports of imminent loan return for Brighton midfielder

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has scotched talk of an imminent deal for Jayson Molumby.

Reports in Ireland earlier this week had suggested that the Republic of Ireland international was set for a loan return to Millwall.

Molumby spent the previous campaign with the Lions and his only appearance for Brighton this season had come at right-back in the EFL Cup second round victory over Portsmouth.

The midfielder did not feature in their 2-0 win in the same competition at Preston North End tonight. But Albion head coach Graham Potter described his absence as “just precautionary for the weekend”.

Rowett was quizzed about Molumby after Millwall’s 2-0 defeat to Burnley in the EFL Cup.

“There’s nothing new on it – just like there was nothing old on it,” he said.

“I keep getting asked the question. He was here last season, so I suppose there is a natural link, but he’s Brighton’s player and they’ve spoken about they want to keep him with them. So there is no real story with that.”
